Aller Air provides a lot of basic no frills air purifier for the money. We are impressed with these machines ability to cope with smoke or the elimination of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Each unit contains a combination of at least 3 of the following: prefilters, true HEPA filters, carbon filters, and in some cases, UV germicidal lights which all help clean the air of particles, gases, odors, and smoke, and various pollutants including molds, depending on the model. This is an excellent quality hepa air purifier.

Pluses:

  • Excellent value: AllerAir machines have always represented an excellent value for the money, and now that is even more true.
  • Choice of filtration media: One of the strengths of the AllerAir line machines is the range of choices of types of media in filters, all designed to absorb odors and gases in the most polluted of environments. Custom ordered AllerAir machines are also available designed to combat the most hostile of indoor air quality environments.
  • Improved finish and quality: We have been impressed by the progress of AllerAir in the last 3 years in improving the finish and quality of manufacturing of its machines. We carry 2 textured finishes, and our favorite is pewter. The textured "hammered" finish is less likely to show scratches than the original glossy or eggshell finishes.
  • Low cost replacement filters: AllerAir has always kept the cost of its replacement filters lower than most of its competition and its machines are energy efficient.
  • Low electricity consumption: One motor consumes the same wattage (95 watts) of power as a single 100 watt light bulb. That is only pennies to operate these air purifiers 24 hours a day.
  • Cost savings with separate HEPA and carbon filters: AllerAir purifiers offer the versatility of being able to take the HEPA cartridge off the air purifier and use only the carbon filter cartridge. This will prevent your HEPA filter from being contaminated and prolongs its life. Since HEPA filters last almost 5 times as long as carbon filters, this feature will save money in replacement filter costs.

Minuses:

  • Noise level: As with many manufacturers of HEPA filters especially the more powerful units, this one does not receive the quiet kid on the block award. To be fair, on low speed, the noise level is very tolerable and just a pleasant noise hum. We advise our customers to turn the machine on high when they are not in the room. They are, however, noisier than most.
  • No filter change indicator: Even though the manufacturer gives average filter life replacement estimates, it would be helpful if these machines had an indicator light when each filter needs to be changed.
  • Filter replacement: The prefilters that comes with some of these air purifiers require a more frequent change than we would like (every 2-3 months recommended), however they can be vacuumed in half a minute for cleaning to improve the efficiency of the filters before they are to be replaced.

Summary: Our congratulations to AllerAir for offering a line of specialized air purifiers at a very affordable price. We feel that the customers who will appreciate these air purifiers most of all are those who work or live in environments that contain smoke, VOCs, gases, chemicals, and airborne pollutants.
