to remove allergens and pollutants from the air
such as pollen, dust mites, mold spores and pet dander

an easy to use, easy to maintain, low cost to run
and long warranty air purifier
- Wants
an air purifier with award-winning style and design
Special
Features of Blueair 301 Air Purifiers
- Easy
to use: Simply plug in the air purifier
and it's ready to use
- Low
cost to run: The Blueair is very energy
efficient since it uses no more energy than
a light bulb: only 20 watts on low to 120 watts
on high
- 3
fan speeds: Choose from HEPASilent™
for nighttime use, moderate for daytime use,
or maximum operations for fast initial cleaning
or very polluted air
- Durable
steel construction: The external parts have
been powder coated for durability and environmental
protection that produces no chemical off gassing;
air purifier housing is easy to wipe clean,
and won't pick up grime and oily stains the
way plastics can.
- Side
to side airflow: Blueair air purifiers
are designed with side-to-side airflow, which
allows placing the unit against the wall to
save space.
- SurroundAir
technology diffuses clean air gently: Instead
of discharging a windy stream of filtered air,
the Blueair 301 diffuses air gently through
an area six times greater than the average air
cleaner. Operating on its lowest setting, Blueair
produces virtually no noticeable draft, while
still providing an exceptional air exchange
rate.
- Filters
resist contamination: Because polypropylene
is waterproof, Blueair filters naturally resist
contamination from bacteria, viruses and mold,
without chemical additives or weekly washes.
- Easy
to change and low maintenance filters and exterior:
When the filter needs to be replaced (twice
yearly), just open the lid, lift out the old
filter and slide in the new one. No screws,
hooks or tools and less than one minute of your
time is required.
- Environmentally
safe filter media: Blueair replaces standard
triclosan-coated paper or glass filter fibers,
which can harm the environment when released
into the waste stream, with safer, nontoxic
polypropylene. This revolutionary filter media
is one of the least harmful plastics, producing
only carbon dioxide and water as it decomposes.
Used filters are 100% recyclable, and release
no toxins into landfills or the air.
- Safety
switch: Automatically turns power off
when air purifier door opens for filter change
or any other reason
- Long
warranty: Blueair air purifiers are durable
and carry a 10-year limited warranty
How
Blueair 301 air purifiers work:
Blueair's SurroundAir system achieves peak
performance without annoying drafts by drawing
in dirty air from the sides and bottom, moving
it through a less dense filter media, and releasing
clean, filtered air from the sides and top.

Reports
by consumer experts on Blueair 301 Air Purifiers
- VERY GOOD
Courtesy of Allergy Buyers
Club.com
| In
a particle count efficiency test that we performed
with the Blueair 301, the results were 86.4% on
low, 88.6% on medium, 73.8% on high, and an average
cleaning efficiency of 84.7%. This means that on
average, 84.7% of the particles going in the machine
were captured by the filter. This would be on all
particulates 0.3 microns and larger. Providing the
filters are changed regularly, there is no drop
in efficiency and the results are acceptable. Although
these results are not as high as with our best Hepa
air cleaners, they are acceptable as 4 to 6 or more
air changes are achieved.
Pluses:
- Takes
up little floor space: With a small
footprint, this air purifier is a good design
for smaller areas
- Very
quiet: On the low and medium speeds,
the air purifier is extremely quiet, so one
can keep it running all night in the bedroom
- Cleans
air effectively: The Blueair 301 will
clean an average size room very effectively,
and this is the only air purifier we have found
which gives more than an adequate number of
air changes per hour on low fan speeds
- Easy
filter changes: The access to get inside
the unit is very easy. You simply pull on the
right side of the front and the panel opens
up. Inside you simply slide the filter out to
replace it. The filter replacement takes seconds
and requires no tools.
- Sleek
design: With a contemporary shape,
putty colored steel exterior and distinctive
blue power light, it can blend in with most
decor
- Durable
metal construction: All major parts
are made from high-quality galvanized steel,
not plastic
- Extended
warranty: As long as the Blueair filters
are changed every 6 months, the air purifier
is covered against manufacturer's defects for
a full 10 years
Minuses:
- Expensive
filter maintenance: You must replace
the filters twice a year to qualify for the
10 year extended warranty. This is the longest
warranty in the industry today which shows that
Blueair stands behind their products.
- Does
not have a pre-filter: In order to
extend the life of the particle filter, a prefilter
would have been a good addition to this air
purifier so it could catch larger particles
first
- Not
a true hepa: According to the manufacturer,
the combined effectiveness of their HEPASilent
media and the internal ionizer brings the effectiveness
of the filtration up to true hepa standards
of 99.97%. Given that the term HEPA is given
to the efficiency of the main filter alone,
it cannot be termed true HEPA.
- No
filter change indicator: Since the
life of any filter will vary enormously according
to the conditions you place it under, an indicator
light allow one to get the most out of the filter
before replacing it
- No
gas filtration for gases and odors:
The technology used in the filter has a very
limited amount of carbon in it. We would not
see this as the best for serious odor removal.
For that we would recommend an air purifier
made especially for gas or odor removal. See
our air
purifier comparison chart for other units
designed for this.
Summary:
In summary, this air cleaner is perfect for someone
who is looking for a quiet, small, efficient air
cleaner for allergens and particulate removal in
a small to medium size room. It is especially suitable
for bedrooms where noise sensitivity issues are
usually present. We think this Blueair 301 is a
real winner because of its size, low noise level,
and value for the money.
Under normal use, we found that the filters seem
to remain effective longer than 6 months. To keep
your 10 year warranty valid, Blueair recommends
that you replace them twice a year nonetheless.
This will prevent you from using your filters long
after their useful life has passed.
