Special Features of Clarifier Air Purifiers (formerly CARE 2000)

  • "Top Flow" air discharge: This flow pushes dust, pollen and odors toward the floor and these contaminants are then drawn into the lower part of the unit on all sides for even filtering. Clean air is pushed out of the top section of the unit.
  • Three fan speed control: This feature on the air purifier lets you decide on the number of air changes per hour which can range from 10 to 26 depending upon room size. Just plug it in, set the dial and start purifying your air.
  • An ultraviolet system (on certain models): This keeps microbiologically contaminated air from passing through the unit for 9000 hrs. The Hepa filter is continually bathed in UV light killing any trapped biological contaminants.
  • Power and Efficiency: The 350 CFM fan uses only 100 watts of power at maximum speed.

How Clarifier air purifiers work (formerly CARE 2000):

Air Filtration Stages:

  • STAGE 1: Spun polyester prefilter is impregnated with carbon to absorb odors, pet allergies and dander, hair and particulates as small as 10 microns.
STAGE 2: Carbon media (15 lbs.) absorb odors, chemicals and gases
STAGE 3: Particle removal - True HEPA (99.97%) reduces of pollen, pet dander, dust mites, molds and particulates down to 0.3 microns in size. Also, this stage significantly reduces aerosols and cigarette smoke.
STAGE 4: Ultraviolet (UV) lamps (in certain models) emit 13000 microwatts per second of kill power to safely protect you against airborne infectious disease. Bacterial and viral microorganisms such as smallpox, salmonella, hepatitis, influenza, TB and Legionnaire's Disease are inactivated or destroyed within the UV chamber. In the UV equipped models, the HEPA is continually bathed in UV light to prevent bacteria and germs from growing.
  • STAGE 5 (in UV systems) or STAGE 4 (in non UV systems) Carbon Post Filter: for final absorption so contaminants don't spill out into the air.

Reports by consumer experts on Clarifier Air Purifiers (formerly CARE 2000)
½ - VERY GOOD PLUS
Courtesy of Allergy Buyers Club.com

The Clarifier air purifier (formerly CARE 2000) is on the high end of residential HEPA based air filters and was developed for its company president who was a severe asthmatic and could not find an air purifier to control her asthma adequately. The Clarifier is a modified version of an air filter used in a hospital environment. The question that most people have is it what makes it worth the extra money?

Pluses:

  • True Air Changes: The Clarifier air purifier is one of the few HEPA air purifiers which accurately states its actual number of air changes per hour. Most manufacturers overstate the CFM rating of their fans by stating the fan capacity unencumbered by having to push the air through several levels of filters. One of the major pluses of this air filter is even on low fan speed it has an adequate number of air changes for any allergy and asthma sufferer. This becomes especially important, as most people prefer to run an air filter at low fan speed to control noise levels especially at night.
  • Multistage Filtration: The Clarifier air filtration system has a pre-filter, a post filter and a 15 lb. carbon filter as well as a HEPA filter. The existence of a pre-filter extends the life of the HEPA filter, and since the HEPA filter is the most expensive component of any machine, filter replacement cost is a hidden but important factor. Properly maintained the Clarifier HEPA air purifier will last you for years.
  • Ultraviolet Filtration: Some models of the Clarifier air purifiers have the additional benefit of ultra violet. Ultraviolet has been documented in independent University studies as having bacteria, virus, mold and allergen killing properties. The standard germicidal dosage of the Clarifier UV equipped models can inactivate or kill bacterial and viral microorganisms such as smallpox, salmonella, hepatitis, influenza, TB and Legionnaire's Disease as well as other contaminants.
  • Filter Change Indicator Lights: The Clarifier air purifier will tell you when to change filters. Many units on the market do not do this. We think this feature is a "must" that you should look for if you have medium to serious allergies. Who wants to change a filter ahead of time, but on the other hand who wants to wait until as one manufacturer said to us the "air smells bad" and you are feeling sick because of it? Please note: On the non UV units- there are no change filter indicator lights.
  • Portability: The Clarifier air purifier has casters and can be easily moved around.
  • Documentation: There is a "real manual" with this air purifier put out by a company who seem to genuinely be concerned that their customers use their air filters to best advantage.
  • Energy Efficient: Some air cleaners including some Honeywell models can add significantly to your monthly energy bill. The Clarifier air filter is very economical in terms of energy consumption making it one of the most energy efficient machines we have tested.

Minuses:

  • Filter Change: To change the filters you have to use a screwdriver , for some people this is an inconvenience. The manual tells you clearly how to change the hepa filter so it is not difficult, but it is more time consuming than some other air filters which do not need a screwdriver.
  • Noise: The Clarifier air purifier is not the quietest air purifier we carry. That honor belongs to Blueair which is not a multistage filtration system. If you don't mind some white noise in the background when you sleep and need superior cleaning power, this machine might be for you. In an office area or family room environment this machine will be fine.
  • Style: The Clarifier air purifier does not win any beauty contest. The styling is a bit boxy. We regard this as a minor complaint given the need for clean air.

Summary:

Clarifier air purifiers (formerly CARE 2000) have one of the best multi stage air filtration systems on the market. These models were designed from hospital clean room filters modified for the home and office market. We sell 3 different models with and without ultraviolet light. See our chart Clarifier Air Purifiers - Compared to find which model best matches your need. They can be used in any room of the home or office or in your small business. We also recommend the ultraviolet equipped versions of this machine for basement use to collect dust and kill mold spores.

Give us a call if you still need help making a decision. We tested these machines and while they are not the most stylish they work well! You will feel better breathing cleaner air and knowing that your environment is constantly being protected from bacteria, viruses and molds as well as from particulates, gases and carcinogenic chemicals. These are serious machines for serious protection. The the extra money that these air filters cost are worth it in our book
