Lighting fixtures
Lighting Fixtures:
Lighting fixtures have become very decorative and are available
in a wide assortment of types, styles, shapes, and sizes to match
any decor. The most popular types of fixtures are recessed canisters,
track lights, task lights, ceiling pendants (single-arm), chandelier
(multi-arm), and wall sconces. Traditionally they can be mounted
above, under and in cabinetry, installed in or hung from the ceiling,
attached to the walls, suspended from wall to wall, and under the
riser in a step. Many ceiling fans also have light fixtures attached
enabling you to circulate air and light the area at the same time.
Contemporary,
traditional, stained glass, antique, Victorian, country, art nouveau,
and art deco are just a few of the styles available. The dimensions
of your lighting fixtures need to be well proportioned for the space.
If your area is large, it will need larger fixtures and/or a grouping
of smaller units. If it is small, you don't want to overwhelm the
space with a huge fixture.
Fixtures
are available in a large variety of colors and finishes such as:
brass, chrome, stainless steel, wrought iron, copper, nickel, pewter,
verdigris, glass, enamel, wood, plastic, wicker, zinc, combinations
of these materials, and more. Finishes include brushed, matte, antiqued,
polished, and hammered, etc. In addition, unusual shades can add
character to a simple and sometimes less expensive fixture. Materials
such as cow hide, stained or leaded glass, and natural papers are
available.
