Pluses:

• Certified Miele Sealed System™ with HEPA filtration: The Miele Solaris and Moon vacuum cleaners are now the first vacuums to be independently certified to be true HEPA sealed vacuum cleaner systems, not just certified HEPA filters. This means the dust and other allergens that you vacuum will stay in the vacuum cleaner where they belong, instead of exhausting into the air in some other machines. The dust bags also seal automatically when removed from the vacuum.
• Direct connect powerbrush: Comes with the SEB 236 powerbrush - a larger, more powerful chrome brush roll, 13 3/8" wide cleaning pateh with 5 height adjustments for a variety of carpet densities, swivel neck for maneuverability, an integrated light and all-round bumper strip to protect your furniture and automatic shut-off when in the parked position. You can even use this Miele powerbrush to clean bare floors by stopping the powerbrush motor and brush roll with a flip of the finger-tip powerbrush switch on the hose. There was no task that it did not tackle with superlative efficiency. There were no visible lint particulates left on dark colored carpets.
• Direct connect wand: This plus is our favorite. Miele gave the Blue Moon vacuum cleaner a fully electrified direct hose connection which means that you do not have to unplug the cord and remove the hose when you change between tools and brushes. When you attach the wand to the hose, and the powerbrush to the wand, all electrical connections are made automatically. Removing them is just as easy. There are absolutely no exposed wires on the hose, wand, and powerbrush which need to be plugged in manually. Changing and using the tools is now incredibly easy.
• Adjust suction power with fingertip controls: This feature appears only on the Miele Red Velvet and Silver and Blue Moon vacuum cleaners within the Miele line. All six fan speeds as well as the powerbrush on/off button are at your fingertips on the wand handle.
• User friendly filter change indicator: Tells you when to change the HEPA filter on the Miele S658 Blue Moon vacuum cleaner. This feature is new to the Silver and Blue Moon vacuum cleaners.
• Telescopic wand: The Solaris and Moon vacuum cleaners from Miele all come with a telescopic 14 inch adjustable wand to help clean high and low places quickly, and provide electrical supply to direct connect powerbrushes and direct connect hoses. We love the flexibility that this feature gave us and decided we do not want to live without it.
• Larger Capacity Bag Size: Since this is a full size vacuum cleaner, the dust bags are much larger than in the mid size models - 6 qt. capacity in the Blue Moon vs. 4.5 qts. in the Silver Moon and Red Velvet
• Improved dusting brush tool: longer bristles and more adjustment positions (even one for overhead cleaning)
• Improved power: The newer Miele vacuums have been given a pre-filter and hose with increased width which provides more cleaning power than in older Miele vacuum models (141 CFM vs. 130 CFM).
• Surge protected motor: Miele changed the way the motors power on in the Moon vacuum cleaners, so they now power on like a computer, gradually to protect against power surges.
• Easy Access Onboard Tools: 3 tools live in a tool caddy on the canister. Intuitively easy to change, and all worked well. The dusting brush was improved with longer bristles and more adjustment positions. It is soft enough even for your most delicate antique furniture. An additional tool that is only included with the Miele S658 Blue Moon vacuum cleaner is the telescopic 300 mm crevice tool, an extra-long nozzle ideal for accessing awkward, narrow spaces such as between the sofa cushions or behind furniture and the refrigerator.
• Maneuverability: All testers found this Miele S658 Blue Moon vacuum cleaner to be lightweight, and also its 360° swivel technology made changing directions and accessing awkward spots a real breeze.
• Vacuum bag change indicator and the automatic self adjusting retractable cord: were greatly appreciated.
• Smart wand park system: Allowed the turbo nozzle to rest upright against the Miele S658 Blue Moon vacuum cleaner when not in use, facilitating neat storage. If you "park" the powerbrush on the canister it will pause the power to the machine till you "unpark" it.
• Protect furniture with canister bumper guard: Miele increased the height of the rubber canister bumper guard and lowered it on the Miele S658 Blue Moon vacuum cleaner which really served to protect our furniture while we moved it from place to place. The included powerbrush also has a bumper guard.

Minuses:

• Upholstery tool : One of the testers, vacuuming pet hair off dark upholstery cushions with the standard upholstery tool said it did a pretty good but not perfect job. To do a really good job on pet hair, that is on your upholstery or stairs, consider adding the hand turbobrush listed below.
• Weight: This Miele S658 Blue Moon vacuum cleaner is a full size (18 lbs.) canister that has large dustbags and has the most powerful powerbrush that Miele sells. This combination may be heavier than some would like. We recommend that you also consider the Miele Silver Moon (15 lbs) if you want these same use friendly features of the Miele S658 Blue Moon vacuum cleaner in a lighter weight vacuum cleaner.

Summary: We tested this Miele S658 Blue Moon next to the Miele Silver Moon and the Miele Solaris Electro vacuum cleaners. The differences between the models were canister size and bag size. Most of the other differences are listed in our Pluses section above. This is a powerful yet quiet vacuum cleaner and it has a large operating radius. The direct connect wand and fingertip speed and powerbrush controls are top notch. This vacuum cleaner is for the person who has a large house with a lot of carpeting and wants the best in reliability, power, filtration and ease of use. Miele's superior vacuum seal, powerful 2 speed motor, fully electrified wand and HEPA certification make this one of the top, if not the best, full size vacuum cleaners on the market today.
