Pendant lighting
Pendant
Lighting:
A pendant lighting fixture, also called a suspender or a drop, is
a single fixture suspended from the ceiling mounted on a chain,
stem, cable, rod, cord, or wire.
Pendant
lighting fixtures, while most often used alone, are very dramatic
when two or three are used together suspended at varying heights.
Pendant lighting fixtures do not have the huge size of a tiered
chandelier and are ideal when space is a concern. Mini- pendants
in an abundance of styles and finishes are also available clustered
on a single mount. Pendant lighting can make a dramatic statement
when used with wall sconces in a hallway, foyer, or outside entry.
Select
pendants with up-lighting, down-lighting, or a combination of both.
Sources of light are available in halogen, incandescent, and energy
saving compact fluorescent light (CFL).
Pendant
lighting is a simple solution for many rooms because it can provide
both general and task lighting. They can be suspended from the ceiling
over a dinette table, kitchen counter, game table, end or night
table. Use them in an entryway or hallway, living room, family room,
bedroom, or work areas. They are excellent sources of general, task,
and decorative lighting.
Pendant
light fixtures are single shaded hanging fixtures and encompass
many styles:
formal, mission, country, crystal, rustic/lodge, transitional, classic,
urban/contemporary, Victorian, Early American, Southwestern, Oriental,
Tiffany, and more. Pendant lighting comes in a large variety of
shades and styles, equipped with a shade, globe, cone, or dish to
prevent glare
A sub-group
of pendant light fixtures are the mini-pendant light fixtures; these
usually have a diameter of 6" or less, and are regularly found in
a row of 2 or 3 over a kitchen island. Mini-pendants may be individual
light fixtures, or may be suspended from a track, cable, or rail
lighting systems. Use a cluster of mini-pendants for added drama
and illumination or individually to bring light to small spaces.
The majority of mini-pendants use halogen bulbs, while some still
use regular incandescent bulbs. Mini-pendant lighting offers an
alternative solution where a large fixture won't fit. With a variety
of suspension styles used separately or together, mini-pendant lighting
can make a beautiful and unique display in your home.
The
addition of a dimmer control allows you to alter the intensity of
pendant lighting to suit your mood, the occasion, or time of day.
In
general, pendant fixtures should be about 30 inches from the surface
of the tabletop, and the size of a pendant hanging over a table
should be at least 6 inches narrower than the table on each side.
Metal Halide Lights, Lamps and Bulbs:
With a full spectrum of bright, white light - metal halide offers
many advantages to help you see better. Metal halide lamps produce
the most concentrated bright white light of any type of artificial
lighting. Metal halide bulbs offer a light that is the closest simulation
to natural sunlight.
Halogen
and incandescent lamps are bright enough for the home, but the additional
heat they give off is uncomfortable. Metal halide is an effective
alternative because it is highly efficient, compact and comfortable,
and provides excellent full spectrum white light. Lamps and Light
boxes that use metal halide technology provide bright white light
that helps to improve your well-being, improves sight, and treats
depression.
Unlike
incandescent bulbs, which often last less than 1,000 hours, metal
halide bulbs offer 6,000 hours of operation. On average, that means
you'll only need to change your bulb every two to three years! Metal
halide also uses half the amount of energy as other light sources,
and this translates into less heat generated than other bulbs, making
it more comfortable to sit next to the lamp for everyday tasks such
as reading, writing, and sewing.
For
example, just one 68-watt metal halide bulb provides the same amount
of light as one 300-watt halogen bulb or five 75-watt incandescent
bulbs.
All
metal halide fixtures must be totally enclosed.
